Illinois Amish Country
Fall Bicycle Tour
On the 3rd Saturday every September, along with the leadership of the Decatur Bicycle Club, well over 600 biking enthusiasts descend on Illinois Amish Country’s flat and scenic terrain to ride… and eat!
The Tours consists of a family friendly 10 mile loop plus 25, 50 or 100 mile loops around the Arthur Amish Area. Generally flat terrain on the short and mid routes makes for easy riding and a family friendly ride. The longer loop takes you closer to Lake Shelbyville and some rolling terrain along the Kaskaskia river. No killer hills around here
The “eat” part is the highlight of the visit for many riders. It usually includes a pancake breakfast to start hosted by the Arthur Lions Club, followed by plenty of snacks and supplies along the route, and then the highlight- a full Amish Country meal served to riders, of late hosted by Pauly’s BBQ. Plenty of good food and a lot more. The food might vary year to year, but you wont go away hungry. Eating is always a highlight in Illinois Amish Country.
This is a family friendly ride in the main with flat short loops, but with the 60 and 40 miles loops being separate, there is opportunity for your century ride, and still make it to lunch.
Along or near the route, or later after your ride, you can make extra stops at the Great Pumpkin Patch, Aikman’s Wildlife Park, Downtown Arthur shops or some of the many Amish operated shops in the countryside.
